Maths: Making sundials to tell the time!
3rd and 4th class made the most of the beautiful weather when learning about time in April. They did some hands on learning by making their very own sundials!
How to play Spikeball
Also in April, as part of our English topic on instructions, we learned how to play a new, exciting game called Spikeball. We played it, watched videos on how to play, discussed the rules, planned our and then produced some excellent instructions. Afterwards we put our instructions to the test by send our written instructions to 5th and 6th to see could they understand them.
Leix All-Ireland Hurling Champions 1915
Connecting with our past. In April we learned all about the Leix team from 1915 and wrote recounts of their historic win over Cork in the 1915 All Ireland.
Christmas Performance
October
Maths Eyes
In October we took part in Maths week with some fun and interesting lessons taking place in our classroom. The children used the Maths Eyes to look at our school in a different way. Children found counting, shape, multiplication and division challenges in the world around them and really enjoyed it.
Science
This month science was all about our lungs. Children made replicas of our lung system using plastic bottles and balloons to show how the diaphragm draws air into our bodies. Children later researched, planned and wrote explanations about how our lungs work!
September
3rd and 4th classes had a busy September. Below are some photos from a multimedia art project, interactive place value maths, growth mindset art and our Daily Mile Challenge!
Ordering numbers between 0 and 999 using Hundreds Tens and Units in teams. The children used their new whiteboards to write the numbers and arrange their numbers from smallest to biggest.
